The Papakura Early Learning Centre playground upgrade was recently completed, and our Tamariki are already enjoying the new playground matting. The upgrade has created a safer, more inclusive, and engaging outdoor environment that supports play, learning, and wellbeing.

The old matting had become uneven over time due to tree roots and years of wear and tear. It was time for a refresh, so our team worked with Creo to upgrade the space.

The new matting has given our playground a fresh new look while creating a safer, more inclusive environment for our tamariki to play, learn, and stay active. Since the upgrade, tamariki have been making the most of the refreshed outdoor space, enjoying opportunities to explore, learn, and move more. Lalupe, Early Learning Centre Head Teacher, shared:

“The new outdoor matting has been such a blessing for PELC and has given the outdoor area a breath of fresh air. The tamariki were so excited when we were able to reveal the outdoor area and currently love whizzing around on the little roads. It is also great that the matting provides a renewed safe space for our tamariki to run around and explore their tinana. As staff, it has empowered us to continue in making out outdoor area aatahua alongside our tamariki and whānau.” Whānau have also noticed the positive difference the upgrade has made. One parent shared, “It was so exciting coming in and seeing the new playground matting. It makes the outdoor area look so much bigger and really freshens up the playground.” Another shared, “It’s really made a difference to the outdoor area and makes it look more inviting for the tamariki. I want to get on a bike and ride around on the new roads myself!” We are excited about the lasting impact this upgrade will have on our tamariki and whānau for years to come.
