Ruzan works as the Playgroup Coordinator at the Takanini Family Service Centre. She says it’s really rewarding to see smiles on the children’s faces and to watch how much they enjoy playing and exploring new things.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what do you do at Great Potentials Foundation?

I am originally from Armenia and have lived in New Zealand for eight years with my husband and two children. I work as a Playgroup Coordinator at the Takanini Family Service Centre. I enjoy exploring the personalities of our little visitors and trying to offer them the toys or activities they can enjoy.

What is your background? And how long have you been working with us?

I have BA in Journalism and I did my MA in Psychology. Back in Armenia I worked as a journalist and as an administrator and training coordinator. In New Zealand, I dedicated several years to the care of my children. When they started going to school and kindergarten, I started volunteering in several organisations which led to this job at the Takanini Family Service Centre. I’ve been here six months and really enjoy it.

What is a typical day at your job?

I start the day by getting the room ready for the children, putting out the toys, and getting everything ready for a fun time. When they arrive, I spend time playing with the children or chatting with their parents. Every child is so different. I enjoy speaking with parents and trying to find out their needs so we can best serve them and their families. After the playgroup I clean the room and toys, so we are ready for the next day.

What do you love the most about your job?

I love meeting new mums and getting to know their stories. Also, it’s really rewarding to see smiles on the children’s faces and to watch how much they enjoy playing and exploring new things. I also appreciate how friendly and welcoming the staff at Takanini Family Centre are, it really is amazing to work with them.
