Announcement of a New Contract- Whanau In Home Learning Programme

In 2021, the Ministry of Education went out to nationwide tender for a new “Whanau In Home Learning programme” for 2–5-year-olds in 20+ areas across the country, ranging from the Far North to Timaru, from Gisborne to Taranaki.

Whilst this has been a very long process, we are delighted to advise that we have been awarded the new contract. In August 2022, Great Potentials Foundation signed a three-year contract with a potential 2-year extension, valued at more than $2.5 million per annum, with the Ministry of Education.

The new contract is based on our highly successful HIPPY programme but includes children from the age of two. The new programme is expected to start in the second quarter of 2023, with 22 sites set up across New Zealand, between Far North and Timaru. There will be 1050 children benefitting from this new programme.

Under the new contract, Great Potentials Foundation will deliver the new programme with the following outcomes:

  • Acknowledge and build on the skills the whanau already have as first teachers.
  • Whānau understand the importance of early learning and make this a priority for their children. 
  • Whānau set and attain goals relating to their children’s early learning. 
  • Whānau spend regular time together with their children to enhance their relationship and engage in early learning. 
  • Children will successfully transition to an ECE, Kōhanga reo, or school/kura. 
  • Whānau will have confidence to engage with their child’s teachers to support their child’s education in the future.
